What to Pack for Alaska
Unmistakable guidelines on what gear is provided, what is available, and what you must bring.
Luggage Limits & Packing Philosophy
Because all transfers from Anchorage to the lodge (and daily fishing trips) are conducted via our private floatplanes, we enforce a strict luggage limit of 50 pounds per guest.
We recommend packing in soft-sided duffel bags rather than hard shell luggage, as they stack efficiently in aircraft cargo bays. To help you maximize your weight allowance, we provide a complete fleet of premium rods, reels, waders, and rain gear on site.
Free On-Site Gear
We maintain an extensive, premium inventory of fishing equipment. You do not need to pack rods, reels, or heavy tackle boxes.
- ✓Fly Rods & Reels: Premium Sage and G. Loomis rods (primarily 6-weight and 8-weight setups) paired with high-performance reels.
- ✓Flies, Beads & Leaders: All custom flies, beads, split shot, indicators, fluorocarbon leaders, and tippet materials.
- ✓Conventional Spinning Gear: High-quality spin-casting rods, reels, and artificial lures for Pike and Salmon.
- ✓Day Trip Gear: Heavy-duty waterproof dry bags for cameras and extra layers on the boat, plus landing nets.
Available to Borrow
Avoid packing bulky waders and wet boots. Simply provide us with your sizing in advance and we will have them waiting.
- ✓Premium Simms Waders: Breathable, chest-high GORE-TEX stockingfoot waders.
- ✓Wading Boots: Clean rubber-soled wading boots. Note: Felt-soled boots and metal spikes are prohibited to protect aircraft floors.
- ✓Wading Accessories: Wading safety belts and gravel guards.
- ✓Technical Rain Jackets: Heavy-duty waterproof wading jackets to wear over layering.
Essential Personal Gear
These personal and layering items are critical to your comfort and safety in the field.
- !Polarized Sunglasses: Mandatory for spotting fish and protecting your eyes. Amber, copper, or yellow lenses are best.
- !Under-Wader Layering: Polypropylene or fleece base layer tops and bottoms. Avoid cotton jeans under waders.
- !Wool Socks: 3-4 pairs of heavy-duty Merino wool socks for wading.
- !Brimmed Hat & Beanie: A baseball cap to block glare and a warm wool beanie for cool mornings.
- !Personal Care: Daily prescription medications, sunscreen, lip balm, insect repellent, and casual lodge wear.
Bringing Your Own Rods?
While we supply high-quality gear, you are welcome to bring your favorite rods. We suggest a 6-weight rod for trout, grayling, and char, and an 8-weight rod for sockeye, chum, and silver salmon. If targetting Kings, a robust 9-weight or 10-weight rod is recommended.
June and July anglers should bring floating lines, plus sinking-tip lines (like a Teeny 200 or 15-foot sink tip) to drift flies through deep channels for Kings. August and September anglers will primarily fish floating lines using beads or surface flies.
